Zeta Phi Beta Sorority , Incorporated Tau Gamma Zeta Chapter is a non-profit charitable organization which focuses on educational programs, scholarships, and community outreach projects. To continue our legacy of empowering the next generation, we are raising funds to support scholarships for deserving students in our community. 50% of each purchase benefits this fundraiser. These scholarships provide critical opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams and contribute to a brighter future. Together, we can uphold the values of service, scholarship, and sisterhood while creating pathways for success for tomorrow's leaders.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. History
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 16, 1920, at Howard University, Washington, D.C. The Klan was active during this period, and the Harlem Renaissance was acknowledged as the first important movement of Black artists and writers in the U.S. This same year the Volstead Act became effective, heralding the start of Prohibition and Tennessee delivered the crucial 36th ratification for the final adoption of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. The worst and longest economic recession to hit the U.S. would define the end of the decade-The Great Depression.
Within this environment, five coeds envisioned a sorority that would directly affect positive change, chart a course of action for the 1920s and beyond, raise people’s consciousness, encourage the highest standards of scholastic achievement, and foster a greater sense of unity among its members. These women believed that sorority elitism and socializing overshadowed the real mission of progressive organizations and failed to address fully the societal mores, ills, prejudices, and poverty affecting humanity in general and the black community in particular.
Tau Gamma Zeta Chapter has been a beacon of service and excellence in Rockland County, New York since 2003.
Since our inception, we have rendered countless hours of service and have remained socially engaged in an effort to uphold our Zeta principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood within the Rockland county community.
Tau Gamma Zeta is comprised of tenacious, professional, hard working women, who pride ourselves in playing an instrumental role in our communities in the name of Zeta while fostering healthy, long withstanding relationships as sisters.
Tau Gamma Zeta chapter carriers out zeta's national programs such as get engaged to mobilize the sisterhood to take action against social injustices in the community and Zetas Helping Other People Excel (ZHOPE) Z-HOPE is an outreach service program
designed to enhance, cultivate and empower participants to develop health promoting lifestyle choices.
through our adopt a school initiative we have adopted one of our local schools, Ramapo high school and are committed to enhancing the school community by actively serving the students and their families.
